If you're running a homework service, never mess up anything for Gripper! FROM TOP: Gripper corners Pogo in the common room - Pogo defends himself with a cricket bat, then a chair. As they grapple on the floor, Mr Hopwood arrives to break them up, and Pogo is left to lick his wounds.

GRIPPER'S LAST STAND - 1983

CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: Baxter pushes Gripper's face in the sink after Stebson calls him "Paki lover". Undeterred, Gripper attacks Clare with a mopful of dirty water after she criticised him, the lads prepare to lynch Stebson in the toilets. Bullet arrives just in time; Gripper is taken to Mrs McClusky for expulsion.

Life after school - in 1984 Gripper was a butcher's boy - determined to catch up with Jimmy McLaren who'd stolen his bike. Gripper made one final on-screen appearance in the 1985 Christmas special.
